FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Bronzeville Sees Significant Crime Reduction Thanks to the Bronzeville Communications Network
Bronzeville, Columbus, OH – September 6, 2024 – The Bronzeville community is celebrating a notable reduction in crime, thanks in part to the introduction of the Bronzeville Communications Network (BCN), launched on March 22, 2024. The BCN has proven to be a crucial tool for enhancing safety by improving communication, increasing awareness, and fostering collaboration among residents, businesses, and local organizations.
The success of BCN would not have been possible without the contributions of many community leaders. Mr. Willis Brown, President of the Bronzeville Neighborhood Association, and Mr. Dana Mossener, Vice President, have both been at the forefront of engaging the neighborhood. Additionally, Ms. Dana Dorsey of PACT’s Safety Committee; Mr. Al Edmondson, President of Mt. Vernon District Improvement Association; Ms. Pam Shields of the Urban Aging Residents Coalition; Ms. Julialynne Walker of the Bronzeville Growers Market, as well as Broad Street Presbyterian Church and Bethany Presbyterian Church have also been instrumental in supporting BCN’s efforts.
Additionally, new data highlights the types of crimes being monitored in the area. The first attached photo (see below) displays a comprehensive list of potential crimes in the Bronzeville area, including serious offenses such as aggravated assault, robbery, and drug violations, among others. The second photo demonstrates the results of a specific incident, indicating an "All Other - Non-Criminal" report at a location in the Bronzeville community. This insight into local crime helps residents understand the scope of safety challenges being addressed.
Eric Hunt, President of the Near East Area Commission, has also stepped in to help expand the network’s reach, ensuring that nearby neighborhoods benefit from similar safety measures. His leadership has strengthened communication efforts across the entire area.
